Smart and Safe Air
An integrated information system for environmental assessment and climate and health risk management, for public bodies and insurers. PR FESR Toscana 2021-2027, Call 2, in a business consortium. Closed with its objectives fully achieved.
Official title, in Italian: «Sistema Informativo Integrato per la valutazione ambientale e la gestione del rischio (SVA)». PR FESR Toscana 2021-2027, Call 2. Started on 6 May 2024, in a business consortium.
Goal
Bring together environmental data that today lives in different places and different formats — European meteorological and climate datasets, air-quality monitoring networks, emission inventories, institutional open data — and turn it into something an administration can decide on.
What we did
BE Care built the system’s software infrastructure.
The application back-end and the web management panel: from there the operators pick the municipalities to monitor, schedule the automatic updates and follow every import, with the operations log tracked in real time.
The data-loading interface: it recognises a dataset’s structure on its own, files it in the central database and guarantees its history-keeping and replacement — so an updated value never erases the history of the old one.
The infrastructure: after trying virtual machines and containers, the choice fell on dedicated servers with two machines, one for data transit and reporting, one for the database and the transfer modules.
How it ended
The project closed with its objectives fully achieved, as the final technical report and the reviewer’s inspection visit attest.
The system is up and running: it refreshes data down to the hourly level, feeds interactive air-quality dashboards and populates a municipal database of high-resolution health and climate risk indicators, built for public administrations, territorial players and the insurance sector.
